FREE UP A HAND
The Sakonnet River Company Wine Tray is practical. It is a single-handed Tray that holds both drinks and appetizers at the same time. The sole purpose of this is to let you free up a hand while you are eating and drinking. It makes eating and drinking easier - and more graceful.
BE KIND TO YOUR GUESTS
Wine Trays are essential for events where everyone's networking and moving around; meet and greet affairs, parties on boats, gallery openings, symphony, opera and theatre intermissions, the bleachers at ball games. They are also useful for large social events like engagement parties, weddings, graduations, conferences and office parties.
BE KIND TO YOURSELF
Because they are light as well as elegant they can be essential accessories for a range of activities like hiking, biking, picnics, taking dinner from the kitchen to the living room, breakfast in bed, skiing and floating in the pool. The Sakonnet River Company Wine Trays can facilitate gatherings of friends and family at any time of the year, whether indoors, outdoors, in the mountains or on the water.
GIVE THE BEST GIFTS,
Because of the high quality of the wood and the craftsmanship, our Wine Trays are often used as gifts. Our petite POCKET Wine Trays were specifically designed as party favors for weddings. Our CLUB Wine Trays were designed, in part, to provide individually packaged meals for special events during COVID. Our customers have found that the Trays are particularly useful as gifts for the person "who has everything." Many customers make good use of the Wine Tray's distinctive look and utility by getting their custom design laser etched on the Trays before shipping them to the recipients.
PRESENT THE BEST TROPHIES AND AWARDS
Our Wine Trays presently serve as trophies and awards at sailing regattas. They also function as auction items at fund-raisers. We can laser etch custom designs for these events and occasions as well. We also provide Trays to clients who wish to personally customize them.
The Tray is very easy to use. We make both left-handed and right-handed Trays. Right-handers put the Tray in their left hand and use the palm of their left hand and thumb to hold the Tray--so their right hand remains free.
Left-handers put the Tray in their right hand and use the palm of their right hand and thumb to hold the Tray--so their left hand remains free. We make both left-handed and right-handed trays.
The beverage is placed in the glass-holder right behind the thumb, as shown above.
The hors d'oeuvres are placed in front of the thumb to balance the Tray and make them easy to access.
EXCEPTIONAL LIGHTNESS
Because we have minimized the weight while maximizing the strength of our Wine Tray, you can carry it for an extended period of time. Many competing wine trays weigh more than 7 ounces. Our POCKET Wine Trays weigh 2.1 to 3.1 ounces. Our wooden CLUB Wine Trays range from 4 ounces to 5.9 ounces. Our carbon fiber Club Wine Tray is 2.3 ounces. The super-light CLUB Trays are ideal for those long-haul cocktail parties where your job is to network.
ERGONOMIC EFFICIENCY
Most wine trays require you to grip the side of the tray with your thumb. The result is that the thumb joint gets numb in 20 or 30 minutes. They also place the glass across the tray from the thumb that is holding the tray. This reduces the amount of time you can hold the tray even further - and affords you less control over the glass and its contents. Our design is copied from the traditional artists palette. The artist's palette puts the weight of the tray on the part of your palm that is closest to your wrist, which bears weight much more efficiently than the fingers or thumb. In addition, we place the glass as close to the wrist as possible to maximize support and control of the beverage. This also provides the most space for the hors d'oeuvres, which tend to be the lower on the Tray, lighter and less long-lasting items, and therefore not as much of a burden at a distance from the wrist. Between the lightness and the ergonomics you can carry your Wine Tray for an hour or two with minimal effort.
CLASSIC AESTHETIC
In addition to being practical, the Sakonnet River Company Wine Tray is elegant. A key design objective was to make the Tray suitable for formal social events. We selected the classic Palladian oval to maximize physical space while minimizing visual space. For our CLUB Trays we made it large enough to hold sufficient refreshments for an extended tour - without becoming a focus of the conversation, or impinging on the profile or the presence of the person holding it. For our POCKET Trays we used the Palladian oval to make the Tray virtually invisible, while still holding a glass and the two or three delicacies needed to tide one over until the sit-down dinner. We also made sure it would fit into the standard blazer pocket or a fashionably modest-sized purse.
PATENT PENDING
The lightness, the ergonomic efficiency and aesthetics of the oval make our Wine Tray a perfect asset for strategic networking or just moving around and seeing the sites at cocktail parties, engagement parties, gallery openings and other social events. In pursuing practicality and elegance, we came up - by accident - with a design that resembles an Angelfish. We figured that this was appropriate, since the Trays are as much needed at in the maritime realm as anywhere else. We applied for a design patent in July of 2022 and have been informed by the US Patent Office that our patent is now pending.
MADE IN THE USA
Our Wine Trays are 100% hand-crafted in the State of Rhode Island (USA). They are made by master craftsmen with a over 20 years of professional experience in their materials.
Perhaps the least pleasant task at any party is: how to manage your napkin. You need it if you are going to eat, but how can you hold it in a civilized manner? Plus it often becomes crumpled and colorful when used. And then there's nowhere to dispose of it.
Many people solve the problem by not eating. But that doesn't always work: often your drink comes with a napkin too.
It's an historical fact: there is no way to be elegant and polite when wielding a napkin.
With our Wine Trays we have solved that problem. With both our GALA and CLUB Trays you can hold your napkin between your index and ring fingers under the Tray. The napkin will be invisible to everyone standing, but readily accessible to you, in case of need.
Elegance and civility regained.
The CLUB Tray is designed for the "long-haul" cocktail party in which networking is often the prime purpose. The CLUB Tray can hold a range of cups, glasses and bowls, as well as a satisfying if not reinforcing number of hors-d'oeuvres. It can also be used for a wide range of personal activities like hiking, biking, skiing, sailing, picnics and breakfast in bed.
The POCKET Tray is designed for the more formal events and occasions in which cocktails are generally followed by a sit-down dinner. The POCKET Tray holds a champagne glass or a stemmed wine glass and two or three hors d'oeuvres. The POCKET Tray fits into the standard-sized inner pockets of a blazer, as well as fashionable purses of modest size.
COMPOSITION
Our Club Wine Trays are cut from single pieces of 100% solid Cherry, Mahogany, Maple, Tiger Maple, and Black Walnut. We also craft trays from solid Burmese Teak, as available. Our Carbon Fiber is 100% yacht grade, upcycled from a major yacht builder.
DIMENSIONS
The wooden Club Wine Trays are all of the same dimensions. They are 10.375" long (26.36 cm) by 7.50" wide (19.05 cm) and 0.25" thick (0.64 cm). The glass holder is 2.4375" in diameter (6.19 cm)., which enables it to hold many tea-cups, coffee cups and beer cups of up to 20 ounces. The Club Wine Trays weigh between 4.0 and 6.0 ounces each, depending on the type of wood.
Our Carbon Fiber Wine Tray comes only in the Club size. It has the same dimensions as the wooden Club Trays. However, it is only 1.5 millimeters thick and weighs 2.3 ounces.
SURFACE
The wooden CLUB Trays are finished using the General Finishes Wood Bowl Finish, which has been used on wooden bowls and kitchen utensils for decades. It is food safe. We sand and apply the finish 3 times, and let the Trays cure for a week before making them available for shipment.
For our Carbon Fiber trays, we also use the Wood Bowl Finish, though the sanding process is necessarily more complex and rigorous.
STACKING
The GALA Trays nest tightly and are stackable.
WASHING AND MAINTENANCE
The wooden TRAYS require only soap and water for cleansing and maintenance. They should not be machine-washed. We continue to get positive results for machine washing of the Carbon Fiber Wine Trays, but cannot warrant them over the long term. We recommend that they also be hand-washed with soap and water.
Our Wine Trays are designed to enable greater control over glasses and their contents.
The glass-holders of the GALA and CLUB Wine Trays are designed to enable easy lifting and replacement. At the same time they hold the glasses snugly in place so that the Tray can be tipped at an uncommon angle without the glasses falling out (protects tablecloths, cushions and carpets, among other things).
At the same time, the glass-holders of the CLUB Wine Tray are sufficiently wide and the surface sufficiently smooth that many stemmed glasses can swivel in place when the angles change.
Important: stemless round-bottomed glasses do not secure easily in the glass-holder unless they are less than approximately 2" tall and the base less than 2'' in diameter.

Everybody has experienced the challenge of eating and drinking at parties. It's a distraction that becomes an anxiety.
Despite the many efforts to address this challenge, the use of wine or cocktail trays is still modest across the US. This is an obstacle not only for guests but also for the hosts and hostesses who want everyone to have a great time.
In the interests of civility, serenity and fun, it is perfectly appropriate to bring one's own Wine Tray to a party. The hosts and hostesses will be grateful: You'll be making their party that much better.
