The Sakonnet River Company Wine Tray solves one of life's greatest minor problems:
THE PARTY TRAP: Forget shaking hands, bumping elbows, checking emails, exchanging business cards, or taking selfies. How do you even eat or drink?
AVOID THE PARTY TRAP. PROVIDE YOUR GUESTS WITH WINE TRAYS.
Wine Trays are essential for events where everyone's moving: meet and greet affairs, parties on boats, gallery openings, symphony, opera and theatre intermissions, the bleachers at ball games. They are also useful for large social events like weddings, graduations, conferences and office parties.
Because they are light as well as elegant they can be essential accessories for a range of activities like hiking, biking, picnics, taking dinner from the kitchen to the living room, breakfast in bed, skiing and floating in the pool. The Sakonnet River Company Wine Trays can facilitate gatherings of friends and family at any time of the year, whether indoors, outdoors, in the mountains or on the water.
They also make great gifts--particularly for those who have everything!
The Sakonnet River Company Wine Trays are single-handed trays that hold both drinks and appetizers at the same time. They give you and your guests a free hand.
Right-handers put the tray in their left hand and use their left thumb to hold the tray -- so their right hand remains free. Left-handers put the tray in their right hand and use their right thumb to hold the tray-- so their left hand remains free.
The Sakonnet River Company Wine Trays are light, elegant and personal. They are distinguished and fashionable.
Our Wine Trays are not made from paper, plastic or inferior classes of wood. They are not disposable. They are hand-crafted from 100% solid walnut, cherry, maple, and teak, all of which are renewable and sustainable resources. Our carbon fiber trays are up-cycled from local yacht-builders, requiring no additional carbon creation.
Our Wine Trays are MADE IN THE USA--handcrafted right here in Rhode Island. They are cut from single pieces of solid Maple, Tiger Maple, Black Walnut, Cherry and Mahogany. We also craft trays from solid Burmese Teak, as available.
The Wine Trays are approximately 10 3/8" long, 7 1/2" wide and 1/4" thick. They weigh between 4.0 and 5.6 ounces each, depending on the type of wood. The glass-holder is 2 7/16" in diameter and can hold most wine glasses, many beer glasses and cups, many juice and cocktail glasses, many coffee and teacups as well as a range of small bowls and dipping dishes.
We also make a carbon fiber Wine Tray (molded for us by Bristol-based Triton Products) that has the same dimensions. However, it is only 1.5 millimeters thick and weighs 2.3 ounces.
The Trays are all of the same design. One of the key features of the design is its ergonomic integrity: we wanted to meet the challenge of holding a plate of refreshments for an extended period of time. The Trays are carefully balanced with the greatest weight -- typically, the drink -- placed as close to the wrist as possible. This gives the greatest space to the hors d'oeuvres, which tend to be the lighter and less long-lasting items and therefore not as much of a burden at a distance from the wrist. The drink is held firmly in place by the glass holder, but allows the glass to stabilize and remain upright when the tray is tipped at various angles. We also make it easy to lift the glass upwards and outwards with grace. Perhaps the biggest ergonomic challenge in designing the Tray was minimizing the weight while maximizing the strength. Our design optimizes the relationship for each type of wood as well as for the carbon fiber.
A second critical feature is the look. In addition to general use we wanted the Trays to be suitable for formal social events. So there was a need for elegance and fashion. We selected the classic Georgian oval to maximize physical space while minimizing visual space: we made it large enough to hold sufficient refreshments without interrupting the look and presence of the person holding it, or becoming a focus of the conversation. The fact that the ergonomic features mixed with the aesthetic features to make the Tray look like an Angelfish was almost serendipitous.
We have a patent pending on our design.

Laser Etching for each type of wood
We can laser etch a name or a logo on our wooden trays. They are affixed before each tray is finished in order to assure permanence. We start making them after they have been ordered and you have approved the look. There is a charge of $8 for the etching for each tray.
For our carbon fiber trays, we can affix black and white or color photos while they are being cured. This also assures permanence. Personalization of carbon fiber trays begins January of 2022.
